Grading PolicyThe primary purpose of our school is to ensure students achieve their full potential. Grades are intended to capture students’ progress toward meeting grade level benchmarks as students move toward high school graduation. Grades are not intended to be punitive. Grades should reflect student mastery, as opposed to student effort or participation. Grades should motivate students to work hard and improve their academic performance over time. Grades provide critical feedback to students and teachers thus should update parents on a regular basis. The policy below is intended to ensure fair and consistent grading practices in alignment with mastery learning.

Grading Guidelines |
Grades must reflect a continuum of standards based on achievement. •Teachers will base their grades on the following: • 70% of a student’s formal grade will be based on common formative tests, comprehensive writing assignments; projects (minimum of 4 assignments per quarter[semester courses] minimum of 2 assignments per quarter [A/B Day classes]) • 30% of a student’s informal grade will be based on warm-ups, notebook checks, quizzes, group work, inclass tasks, class participation. (minimum of 8 assignments per quarter[semester courses] minimum of 4 assignments per quarter [A/B Day classes]) • Class participation rubrics must be approved prior to use. • In order to ensure equity, Professional Learning Communities will establish standards based common criteria for student work and assessments using a rubric. • All grades must be calculated based on 100 points. • The lowest F earned will be 50%. If a student does not attempt an assignment, a zero will be entered. • A student should be assigned grades often that the student is able to learn and improve based on the feedback provided by the grade. • Grades for all assignments must be entered in PowerSchool weekly or within 72 hours of the assignment given. • Work must be returned to the students within 48 hours of the assignment due date. This mean students must see graded assignment with any corrections/feedback provided. |
Late Work |
Arrangements must be made within 5 school days with teacher from the assignment due date to receive full credit. If the assignment is not turned in by the agreed upon date, the assignment will be counted as late. A log will be kept to document conversations and agree upon due date for the assignment(s).
• It is the student’s responsibility to communicate with the teacher regarding missed assignments from an absence. • A zero will be placed in PowerSchool for any missing assignment until the assignment is made up. • Late work will be penalized 10% each class period that it is not submitted if the student was present in class or school on the due date. • A teacher may choose to provide extended time for students to complete missing assignments. |
